He was born in Pittsburgh, December 5, 1907, son of the late Thaddeus Edward Schauer and Minnie Lang Schauer.
During the 1920's he was a professional boxer and had an unbeaten record. A resident of Erie most of his life, he worked for the General Electric Co., where he was a die set-up instructor for 43 years, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of Lawrence Park Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where he served as an honorary elder, deacon, and church trustee. He was an avid collector of antiques and belonged to the GE Quarter Century Club, GE Retired Employees Association and the Wesleyville Keenagers. He attended the Edinboro University Elderhostel.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Edward, William and Edward Schauer.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Edith Hopkins Schauer; two sons, Dr. George H. Schauer of Meadville and his wife, Sara, and Joseph H. Schauer and his wife, Nellie Mae, of Cape Vincent, NY; a sister, Mrs. Lauretta Ray of Colton, CA; three grandchildren, an aunt, and several nieces and nephews.
