Son of the late Vernon Edgar Tharpe and Brentie Robinson Tharpe.
OBITUARY: Robert "Poppa" Franklin Tharpe, 89, of Front Royal, went to be with the Angels on June 26, 2010.
Robert was born April 2, 1921, in Warren County to the late Vernon [Edgar] Tharpe and Brentie Robinson Tharpe. Robert was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. He was a member of the 406 Light Mortar Infantry as well as a member of Giles B. Cook Post 53 of the American Legion. Robert was a retired welder of 43 years for Riverton Corp. (ESSROC).

He was preceded in death by two daughters Sally Ann Tharpe and Ruth Mae Frazier. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 61 years Margaret Jenkins Tharpe. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Jean Frazier and her husband Charlie Frazier; sisters Anna Sine, Brentie Doty, Sadie Walker, Helen Cook, Betty Doffermire, and Georgia Clark; ten grandchildren including one special granddaughter, whom he raised and then later made his home with, Robin and James Hicks; 15 great-grandchildren including a special one, whom he helped raise, Arold "Boo" Smith; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James "Pee Wee" Hicks, Arold "Boo" Smith, Charlie Frazier, John "Jr." Taylor, Hollis Tharpe, and Louis "Peanut" Tharpe. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynwood Frazier, Duane Taylor, Keith Seal, and Chris Taylor.
