Amalie Augusta Oehme was born on November 8, 1844 in Grosshartmannsdorf, Saxony, Germany. She was the daughter of Carl August Oehme and Christiane Dorothea Börner.
On June 1, 1868, Amalie married Gottlieb Leberecht Braun, later known as Lebrecht. They had five children before immigrating to America: Marie, Emilie, Robert, Lina, and Milda. The family arrived at the port of New Orleans aboard the SS Nurnberg on November 8, 1879. They settled in McDade, Texas, where their children Hermann, Bertha, and Anna were born.
Amalie died on March 7, 1931. She is buried at Siloah Lutheran Cemetery in McDade.
