DR. R.D. JOHNSON DIES MON. FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TUES.

Hearts were saddened when news was spread that Dr. Robert Davis Johnson, 64, had died at his home in Opp, Monday morning at six o'clock, following a lingering illness of about a year. He had been in declining health for several years, and for the past year, had spent a greater part of his time at points along the Gulf Coast, thinking it might be of some help to him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the First Baptist Church, of which he was a member. His pastor was in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. A.B. Clausen, pastor of the Opp Methodist Church.

Interment was made in the local cemetery, and the numerous beautiful floral offerings and large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attested the affection and high esteem in which he was held. Active pall bearers were R.O. Page, Barney Colquett, Sam Hardage, R.S. Jeffcoat, M.E. Donaldson and George Armstead. Honorary pall bearers were: Cleve McGhee, Herbert Jackson, W.H. Dorsey, Jr, Tamp Kirkland, John Breedlove, M. W. Woodham, Hugh Richburg, Jonny Woodham, Lester Gunnels, Rufus Walker, Vern Sanders, and Claude Stanley; also Robert O'Neal and Tom E. Henderson of Andalusia. Flower girls were: Miss Mary Nell Spurlin, Mrs. Mabel Lawson, Miss Lucille Stanley, Miss Adelle Saunders, Miss Nan Donalson, Mrs. Louise Dorsey, Mrs. Frances Barnes and Miss Zelda Money.

Dr. Johnson was born in Coffee County, Alabama, on January 15, 1881, the son of the late J.W. and Elizabeth Fuller Johnson, of Elba. At the early age of fifteen years he joined the Church and throughout his life, he has been a sweet and loveable character, generous and thoughtful.

He was married to Miss Emma Alice Mills, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Mills, of Elba. He began his business career in Elba, where he was a merchant and farmer. Later, he studied Veterinarian medicine and began his practice of Veterinary medicine and surgery in Elba until 1922, when he moved with his family to Opp. Since that time, he has continued his practice and also did some farming on the side. He was a loving husband and father, and a kind and generous neighbor, and has a host of friends, throughout this section, by whom his presence will be greatly missed. He was a Mason and a Woodman.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Emma Alice Johnson, three daughters: Mrs. C.A. Wingham of Louisville, Alabama;Mrs. Dewey Ward of Opp; and Mrs. Wilson Robertson of Enterprise; three sons: Robert Chalma Johnson of Opp, Dr. Robert Andrew Johnson of Andalusia, and John Lorenzo Johnson of Opp; also two sisters, Mrs. Rhetta Johnson of Elba, and Mrs. L.C. Cook of Munson, Florida.

Among those out-of-town present for the funral were J.W. Mills, L.D. Mills, and R.N. Mills of Red Level; Dr. J.B.
