Blitch, Spier 1766 - 1845 Efingham
Spier Blitch was born in St. Matthew Parish (now Effingham County GA) in 1766, son of Thomas Blitch, RS (Vol III). He spent his entire, nearly ninety years in Effingham County. He married twice and had two sons by the first wife and 13 children by the second wife. He was first married Oct, 17, 1803 to Zilpha Hurst, born in 1783 in NC, daughter of William Hurst, RS (Vol.I). After the first wife's death in 1806, he married Hannah Tiner in Effingham County, Ga. She survived her husband. They had 15 children. Mr. Blitch was an influential citizen of his county. He served in the Oconee Indian War in the later 1780's, also in the militia in the War of 1812. He was granted from the state, 400 acres in 1816, 100 acres in 1824 and 250 acres in 1839, all in 1845. In his will he named his sons William and Henry as executors, only William served. Henry being in poor health at the time did not qualify. "The estate was not finally closed until 1857 or until after his widow's death. Note: The estate division shows F.S. DuPuir who drew a share. He evidently a son-in-law, but his wife's name is unknown. He married three times, the first marriage being about 1792 and nothing is known about his wife. She was, however, the mother of son Willis Spier, born in 1793 (not 1806) and married Drucilla Baker. The second wife of the subject, Zilpha Hurst, was the mother of the son Elijah, who married twice (name of first wife not known). The second wife of Elijah was Mrs. Sarah (Zettrour) Pace, widow of Noah Pace, and daughter of Solomon Zittrouer, and his wife Elizabeth Oglesby. The subjects other 13 children were by his third wife, Hannah Tiner. The husband of the daughter, Frances Ann, was a son of Jesse Dykes and his wife, Mary, of Effingham County."
