COLUMBIA SLOUGH TAKES TRAGIC TOLL--Two boys GLEN ABRAHAM & RICH BAYLDONE both-age 12, were victims of a skating acci-dent Sunday afternoon [1-13]. The boys, the former son of Dr & MrsVR Abraham; the latter a son of Mr & MrsJH Bayldone, were skimming over the ice of a long Columbia slough west of the city. Eye witnesses stated that they broke through the ice simultaneously. Young Abraham was seen to struggle for some little bit at the edge of the ragged ice where he broke through. Cad & Arch Williams, older boys who had been skating nearby, went to the rescue but broke through themselves. Paul Keir, a playmate of the two drowned youths, went into the icy water trying to rescue young Abraham & in aiding the Williams boys. Leonard Thomson, a son of Mr & MrsGeoW Thomson, while attempting to reach the bodies fell into the icy pool from a canoe. A messenger rushed to a telephone & a few minutes the news was broadcast over the city. The American Legion pulmoter was rushed to the scene. A crowd soon arrived, but it was impossible to effect recovery of the bodies until a raft had been built, from railroad ties & sturgeon hooks were brought by Floyd Wright. Grapplers recovered the body of the younger Abraham in about an hour & every effort was made by Drs JW Sifton & RS Rodgers to effect resuscitation. It was over two hours before the body of the little Bayldone boy was found. The deaths Sunday brought Columbia slough drownings for the past five months to four.

DOUBLE FUNERAL HELD----Every pew was occupied & many were unable to find seats at Riverside church Tuesday morning when a double funeral service was held for the boys. Dr WH Boddy, whose own little 10-year-old son was drowned in the slough last September, delivered a touching sermon. While DrBoddy was under admirable control, his very voice wept. Rugged men wiped away tears from their eyes as they left the church building. No funeral service has ever been more touching. The little Abraham boy, who was president of his class at junior high school, had succeeded a 12-year-old playmates, Leonard Slocum, last October. The latter was a victim of the slough, having fallen from a raft. DrBoddy during this service made a prayerful appeal that the citizens of this city be aroused to action that will lead to supervision of the recreation of the boys. Immediately after the funeral service the body of Richard was taken to Idlewilde cemetery for interment. At noon the body of Glen was taken to the Portland Crematorium over the Columbia River Highway. A short commitment service was held at the Crematorium. Richard was student at the Park Street grade school. The members of the class of both attended in a body. Scriptural reading was given by Rev Lindley H Miller, little Richard having attended St Mark's church & Sunday school. Vocal solos were rendered by MrsCH Sletton & Geo R Wilbur. MrsSletton was accompanied at the organ by MissSara Howes. MrsAW Beckley accompanied Mr Wilbur. In addition to his parents Richard leaves a sister-Mildred. He was born at Carlton OR.

GLEN TEMPLETON ABRAHAM was born in Chicago while his father was a student at Rush Medical College. In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister-Virginia & a brother-Kenneth.
