John Clarence English, 84, of Double Bridges Road, Spout Spring, Va., died on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Heritage Green. He was the husband of Leona O. English. Born in Franklin County, Va., on August 19, 1925, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Amy Ellis English. Clarence was a member of Providence Free Holiness Church and a retired farmer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sheryl E. Burke and her husband, Jim, of Appomattox; a sister, Dorothy Holland, of Vinton; two grandchildren, Sam Burke and wife, Kelly, of Berkeley Heights, N.J., and Sandy McBride and husband, Steve, of Roanoke; five greatgrandchildren, Katie, Emily and Stephen McBride, of Roanoke, and Erin and Samuel Burke, of Berkeley Heights, N.J.; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces including a cousin that was like a brother, Clyde Dillon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda E. Law; two brothers, James L. English and William T. English; and two sisters, Elsie E. Brown and Reva E. Jones. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Providence Free Holiness Church by the Rev. Charles Swicegood with burial following in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service. The family will also receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010, and other times at the residence.
