REWARD FOR THE GIRL'S SLAYER
LeMars Council to Take Action This Evening-Sleuths May Be Imported

LeMars, Ia., Aug. 23, 1917-Special: The authorities who are investigating the murder of 12-year-old Alta Braun, of LeMars, say they are following up a clue and that outside assistance will be obtained in the prosecution of the case.

The city council will meet tonight to take action in the matter of offering a reward for the apprehension of the murderer, and the county supervisors are expected to do the same.

The funeral of the dead girl was held from the home today and the body taken to Akron to be interred beside those of her mother. It has been learned positively that the girl was seen alive on Monday night between 9:30 and 10 o'clock on her way home about two blocks from the railroad crossing, near where the body was found the following
morning.

Akron Register Tribune, March 5, 1908 ed. The wife of Chris. Braun, whose parents conducted the old Plymouth hotel in Akron about nine years ago, died recently in Colorado.

Family Note:

There is much more information published in the Akron, Sioux City and LeMars newspapers but they are too involved to add here. As you can see from the one photo of the area around her stone, she appears to be buried alone, and not near her mother or grandmother as some of the articles state. Where Lena Davis Braun died is still a mystery. Did she die in Iowa or Colorado? So far her death record has not been found. Was there another unfound marraige record for Chris? Is Lena Davis Braun really Alta's mother? What remains are several family mysteries, including that of a violent unsolved murder of an innocent young girl.
