WINFIELD, Kan. -- William H. "Bill" Bergdall, 86, of Winfield died Jan. 27, 2008, at William Newton Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1921, in Meno, Okla., to Henry Ray and Maggie Swartz Bergdall.
He attended Victor Point School and graduated from Winfield High School in 1938. He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He had worked for the Winfield Postal Service and Jarvis Auto Supply as a sales manager where he worked until 1985, after 38 years. He attended Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, reading and genealogy. He moved to Rogers in 1989 and then to Overland Park, Kan., in 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Montra May Roberts Bergdall, on Nov. 5, 2002. He returned to Winfield in 2003 and resided at Cumbernauld Village.
Survivors include his children, Brenton Bergdall and wife Sharon of Lenexa, Kan., Beverly Johnson and husband Jerry of Winfield, Randy Bergdall of Redding, Calif., and Bonnie Unruh and husband Greg of Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Sympson of Winfield and Nancy Bowman of Liberal, Kan.; three stepgrandsons; six great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Tisdale Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Winfield Isle of Lights and the Brothers in Blue/Prison Fellowship Ministry Program c/o the funeral home.
