TUSCALOOSA | Velma Creel Cook, age 81, of Tuscaloosa, died March 7, 2006 in Tuscaloosa. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.

Her parents, Andrew Creel and Tennie Beaty Creel of Corner, Ala.; her sisters, Cumi Mitchell, Flavin Creel, Pauline Vanderver and Sadie Lowe, all of Jefferson County, Noleeka Teem of Foley, Ala., and Lora Hudson of Cullman, Ala., and her brothers, Arvel Creel, Guy Creel and Vaudus Creel, all of Jefferson County, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Jan Cook Kendrick (David), her granddaughter, Morgan Lee Kendrick, all of Tuscaloosa, and her brother, Eugene Creel of Calera, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Born May 29, 1924, Velma was the youngest girl of 11 children born and raised in the northern Jefferson County community of Corner. She loved her family – especially her only granddaughter, Morgan, the light of her life. She treasured the fellowship of her friends at Morning Pointe and loved the singing and music activities while a resident there. She was a wonderful mother who instilled Christian values to her daughter and held strong to her beliefs throughout her life. She was a true friend and inspiration to all who knew her.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, Patrick Accardi, Daniel Lowe, Brad Green, Matthew Creel, Jim Hudson, Larry Creel, and Steve Creel.
