Doris Jean Sikes, aged 81 passed away Thursday, July 16, 2010 after a brief illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Winnfield. She joined the First Baptist Church as a young girl and remained a member her entire life. She taught the four year old Sunday School class, served in the choir for many years, and attended the Tri-L Sunday School class. She was also a long standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from the Bank of Winnfield after many years of service.

She is preceded in death by her husband of many years, James Edward Sikes Sr.; her parents, Pollard Hugh Mercer Sr. and Lois Harlan Mercer; and her siblings Pollard Hugh "Sonny" Mercer Jr., Anne Binion, and Olavee Hudson.

She is survived by her son Jim Sikes and wife Valarie of Katy, Texas; grandsons Matthew Sikes and wife Kara of Dallas, Texas, and Patrick Sikes of Richmond, Texas; along a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be held under the direction of Southern Funeral Home Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church of Winnfield beginning at 10:00 AM.

Pallbearers are Coleman Hudson, Thomas Dean, Wayne Coleman, Chris Carney, Lyn Bankston, Delane Adams and Cranford Jordan.
