The deceased was one of the most extensive potato growers in the famous Hastings-Elkton potato belt and was largely instrumental in forming the Hastings Potato exchange. He was an active member of Grace Methodist Church, and a member of the Masons, a Shriner, and director of the St. Augustine National Bank.
Surviving relatives include the widow, Jennie M. Middleton, one son, Gordon, a stepson, Howard Purcell, the mother, Mrs. Martha J. Middleton, of Hastings, three brothers, G. C. Middleton and C. A. Middleton, of Hastings, and S. C. Middleton, of St. Augustine, and three sisters, Mrs. Laura I. Flake of Hastings, Mrs. Ada Du Pont of Jacksonville and Mrs. Mamie Barker of South Jacksonville.
Mr. Middleton was well and favorably known in this county. He is a nephew of Mrs. S. S. Green, of Pomona.
