George was the oldest of four children born to Johann Pape and Franciska Biermann. His younger siblings were Amalia (1869), Christian (1873), and Frances (1878). Franciska died in 1878, perhaps as a result of Frances' birth, and by 1880 the children were living at St. Joseph's German Orphan Asylum in Louisville, KY. On 27 Nov 1894 he married Anna Mary Young and they had one child, Lloyd. Anna died in 1902 and on 30 Apr 1907 he married Lena Kastelhun. They had one child, George, who died as a result of a premature birth. George was, at various times, a saloon keeper, grocer and the manager of a dairy. George died of a coronary occulusion at the Little Sisters of the Poor at the age of 84.

George was my 2nd great-uncle.
