William died from a gunshot wound at 11 a.m. on Nov. 17, 1925, in Denison, Grayson Co, TX. He had lived 63 years, 2 months, & 9 days. G.A. Lackey of Sherman was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried the following day.

"FAMILY TROUBLE LEADS TO SHOOTING OF DENISON FARMER
Denison, Texas, Nov. 17. - W.M. Claybrook, 57, farmer, was instantly killed on a farm six miles east of Denison shortly before noon when he was shot over the heart with a shot gun. C.L. Bond was arrested and a formal charge of murder filed against him in connection with the shooting. Domestic trouble was assigned as cause of the shooting."

"DENISON, Nov. 17 - Wm. Claybrook, 57, was shot through the heart and killed six miles east of Denison Tuesday. Claud Bond was arrested and brought to Denison and later transferred to the Sherman jail shortly after the shooting took place. The shooting of Claybrook occurred on a farm when he was picking cotton."

Denison, Texas, Nov. 18. - W.M. Claybrook, 57 years old, and married, is dead and Claud Bond, also married, is under arrest following a shooting Tuesday morning at 11:15 o'clock six miles east of this city. Bond was placed under arrest and brought to Denison by Officer D.E. Daniels.

The shooting took place on the farm of Steve Finley, where Claybrook was picking cotton. Claybrook was shot in the left side over the heart and death was instantaneous. Bond was transferred to the Sherman jail."

Sherman, Oct. 20. - The case of Claude L. Bond, Grayson County farmer charged with killing W.M. Claybrook, a cotton picker, a year ago, went to the jury in the Fifteenth District Court here late today. Bond pleaded self-defense and also asked for a suspended sentence, in the event of conviction."

"BOND MURDER TRIAL ON AT SHERMAN
Sherman, Jan. 26. - In the trial of Claud L. Bond of Georgetown in Fifteenth District Court on a charge of murdering W.M. Claybrook, Nov. 17, 1925, east of Denison, the state had rested and the defense had introduced the testimony of 29 character witnesses for Bond when court was recessed at 12 o'clock.

For the state, Mrs. Della King, wife of Claybrook at the time of his death, testified that she was present and that she said, 'Please, Mr. Bond, don't shoot him, let me explain,' when Bond had given Claybrook a paper and remarked to Claybrook, 'You have broken up my home.' She said that Bond replied to her pleas, 'Get out of the way or I will kill you.'

'Bond gritted his teeth and said to me, 'Now I guess you will stay there.'' Mrs. King testified.

Bessie Claybrook, daughter of the deceased, supported her mother's testimony and said she told Bond, 'Oh, Mr. Bond, please don't shoot my papa.'

Mrs. Jaunita Mayfied, another of Claybrook's daughters, testified that her father did not have anything in his hands when he was shot.

W.S. Farmer and Mrs. Lula Farmer of Red Branch and Mrs. Helen Bond of Sherman, formerly of Sadler, testified for the defense just before noon. Mr. Farmer said he believed Mrs. Ella Bond, wife of the defendant, was of unsound mind at times and that at other times her mind seemed to be all right, and that Claud Bond told him eight or nine years ago that his wife's mind was at times unsound. Mrs. Farmer's testimony was along the same line.

Mrs. Helen Bond, a relative by marriage, said she believed Mrs. Bon was of unsound mind at intervals"

Sherman, Texas. Jan. 27. - A graduate of Yale law school, J. Frank Adams of Denison, poet, musician and business man, was accepted on the jury empaneled in the 15th district court late Monday for the trial of Claude L. Bond, of Georgetown community, on a charge of murdering W.M. Claybrook, east of Denison on Nov. 17, 1925. Business mean and farmers made up the remainder of the jury. At a former trial a hung jury stood eight to four for conviction. Trouble between the families was given at the first trial as the cause of the shooting."
