They lived in Virginia, Lake Tahoe, CA and settled in Santa Maria.
Graduated from Topeka High School, attended Clark's School of Business there. In Onaga she and Ernie were active with Boy Scouts, 4-H and other youth activities. In California she volunteered at convalescent hospitals.
Survived by husband, sons Kenneth Underwood and Earnest E. "Chip" Carl, Jr. of California, sister Tess Peabody of San Diego, CA, and brother Ed McPartling of Houston, TX.
Services in Onaga May 30 at Tessendorf Funeral Chapel, with graveside services and burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
