Hon. Jacob S. Biddle, a well known and highly respected citizen of the southern end of the Cove, died at his home in Loysburg, at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning of a complication of diseases. He had been in failing health for some time.

Deceased was born February 12, 1844, and had been a resident of Loysburg and vicinity practically all his life. On Christmas day, 1867, he was united in marriage with Emma Shoenfelt and on Christmas day, 1917, the couple observed their golden wedding anniversary surrounded by their children and grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Biddle was a veteran of the Civil war, having served three years in the Union army. He participated in some of the most prominent battles of the war and had an excellent service record. He was a member of the Grand Army post of Woodbury.

Jacob S. Biddle was one of Bedford county's most prominent Republicans and during his vigorous days took a prominent part in politics. He represented his county in the state legislature from 1895 to '97. He also took an active interest in home affairs, serving as school director for some years. He was a member of the Loysburg Methodist Church, and for many years superintendent of the Sunday school of the congregation. Mr. Biddle engaged in farming as an occupation till about ten years ago, since which time he lived a retired life.

He is survived by the widow and the following children: Emory of Loysburg, Mrs. J. D. Ritchey of Lancaster, John A. of Canoe Creek, Roy L. of Anderson, Ind., Mrs. J. M. Woodcock, Homer S. and Warren H., all of Altoona. A brother, A. B. Biddle, of Johnson City, TN.,also survives.
