Arlene was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Saginaw, to the late George and Anna (Sly) Maier and lived in this area all her life. On Aug. 17, 1940, she married Elroy A. Sanford; he predeceased her on Nov. 2, 2008. She was a member of LaPorte United Methodist and was an avid crafter and doll collector.
Arlene is survived by her son, Lee (Lynn) Sanford of Saginaw; two grandchildren, Lisa (Tracy) Stimpson, and Teri (Kevin) Heise; and two great grandchildren, James Stimpson and Gillian Marlene Heise. Also many nieces, nephews and friends survive Arlene. Two brothers and three sisters predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at the LaPorte United Methodist Church in LaPorte. The Rev. L. Cecile Adams will officiate, with burial in LaPorte Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington, Freeland, on Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider LaPorte United Methodist Church - Carpet Fund, Cartwright Hospice Residence of Saginaw Twp., or the donor's favorite charity.
