Grant County Herald (Elbow Lake, MN), 30 January 1936, page 5: "Peander Burtness. Peander Burtness passed away at St. Luke's hospital in Fergus Falls, Monday, January 27. The immediate cause of his death was due to pneumonia. He has been ill for some time with cancer. He was taken to the hospital about two weeks before he died. He was 52 years old at the time of his death. Peander Burtness was born November 7, 1883, the son of Tideman and Barbara Burtness. He has lived in Elbow Lake township with the exception of two years in Stony Brook township and three years in Portland, Ore. He has been a member of the Ness Lutheran church in Elbow Lake. He is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Theodore of Sask., Canada; Mrs. Leva Nohre of Elbow Lake; Hans Burtness of Kalispell, Mont.; Mrs. Henry Hanson of Elbow Lake; Mrs. E.W. Hanson of Minneapolis and Adolph Burtness of Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, January 30, at 2 o'clock at the Ness Lutheran church, Rev. O.G. Aasen will officiate. The pall bearers will be E.I. Brewster, Andrew Fjoslien, John Berger, Alfred Wicklund, Otto Ostby, and Carl Wold."
