Funeral services for Roy S. Brookman, publisher of the Springview Herald for 25 years, were conducted Monday, September 25 at the Methodist church in Springview by Rev. C. Curtis Norlin.

He died at the Ainsworth hospital Tuesday, September 21, following a few weeks’ illness. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Roy was born July 22, 1886, at Gravity Iowa.

Beginning his apprenticeship in the weekly newspaper field at the age of 14, he worked in plants at Torrington, Wyoming, McCook, Kimball and Gering, Nebraska to further his experience.

Prior to coming to Springview in 1931, he was managing editor of the Lexington Clipper for five years. He retired from his profession in 1958.

On August 19, 1925, at Scottsbluff [Nebraska], he was united in marriage to Ruby Atwood.

Roy was a member of Silver Cord Lodge No. 224 AF&AM, Ainsworth; Springview Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 205, and Elks Lodge No 1790, Ainsworth.

He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church at Scottsbluff in 1924.

Survivors include his wife; three sons by a previous marriage, Lavergne G., Compton, California, Max L., Medford, Oregon, and Cherald H., Buena Park, California; one brother, W.R. Brookman, Clarinda Iowa; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Masonic rites were conducted at the cemetery.
