Civil War; 96th New York Infantry, died of disease at Fortress Montroe, Virginia

***
Lyman Morehouse was a 19-year old recruit who enlisted on December 19, 1861 in Moriah, New York. He entered the 96th Regiment New York Infantry - the "Plattsburg Regiment" 4-days later and was assigned to Company K as a Private.

Transferred to Virginia with assignment to the Army of the Potomac, Private Morehouse contracted a disease that proved fatal on June 18, 1862 at Fort Monroe near Hampton, Virginia.

It's uncertain, but this soldier may possibly have been the same Lyman D. Morehouse who served with the 8th Independent Battery New York Light Artillery. His name appears on this website under the heading "Men detailed from Infantry Regiments to Serve in this Battery".

In 1867, his mother and father filed for a pension benefit. The 8th NY Battery is given as Lyman's regiment.
