Mr. Harold "BUM" Arthur Hatfield, 84, of Grayling passed away on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008. Harold was born in Toronto, Canada, on April 17, 1924, the son of the late Harold James Lacey and Gertrude Oliver (Mathias) Hatfield. He then moved with his parents to Detroit in 1926. In 1931 he moved to Grayling with his parents and attended Grayling High School before joining the U.S. Army on January 5, 1943. As a Sergeant he served as a tank commander in ETO receiving five battle stars and was wounded in action on January 7, 1945. He served his country for four years, one month, and 21 days before being discharged. After being discharged he became City of Grayling police patrolman, and chief of police for a total of 28 years and was Craw ford County Sheriff for 12 years. He married Ilene Robarge in 1948 and had two children, Michael James and Marceline Jo. Survived by: Daughter: Marceline Hatfield Daughter-in-law Janet (Stephan) Hatfield Grandson: Preston Durham Granddaughter: Michelle (Hatfield) Rioux Great-grandson: Louis Rioux Jr. Brothers: Gary,Warren, and Carl Hatfield He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gertrude Hatfield; wife Ilene Robarge Hatfield; Son, Michael Hatfield; Sister, Ruth Elizabeth Hatfield; Brothers Roger Hatfield, Hazen Hatfield, Jams Hatfield, and Howard Hatfield. Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Friday August 29, 2008 between 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday August 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Condolences may be sent to www.sorensonlockwood.com Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
