Cecil Pursley/Purselley was the son of Nancy Louisa "Lou" (Hoover) Jones-Smith-Benton-Purselley and her fourth husband William Jr. Pursselley. Cecil was eight years old when he died. According to the Missouri Digital Heritage website the cause of death was diabetes. Cecil's name is on two headstones in Pleasant Hope Cemetery. His original stone lists his name as Cecil T. "Purselley" born May 20, 1905 died Nov 23, 1913 "Budded on earth to bloom in Heaven". Then he was listed again on his mothers headstone but this time their last name was spelled "Pursley". His date of birth and death were the same on both stones. Their last name was spelled several different ways on various documents i.e. Pursley, Purselly, Purselley, Pursselley and Purseelley. According to family folklore the different spellings came about because of differing loyalities during the Civil War.
