Gertrude Effie Dismukes, 95, of Festus died on July 20, 2014 at her home. She was born on March 14, 1919 in Athens, Alabama to James Oscar and Lillie Belle (Blankenship) Lovell. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clayton Charles Bates; her second husband, J. D. Dismukes; her son, Deral Wayne Bates; her brothers, Benon Leo Lovell, Dempsey Leo Lovell, and George Washington "Doc" Lovell; her sisters, Birtie Angeline Romine, Lura Mae Romine,and Mildred Elizabeth Bates; and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Joyce Marler-Schmidt of Festus and Gail Guilfoyle of Low Point, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and twenty four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto. Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery in Athens, Alabama.
