Beloved wife, mother, "mother-in-love", sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 18, 2006. Martha was born Sept. 3, 1921 in Arkadelphia, Ark., the eldest daughter of Edgar Dale and Maggie Ola "Sweeney" Summerhill.
She married the love of her life, Eddie C. Hair, on Aug. 25, 1941, in El Dorado, Ark., and spent 58 wonderful years with him. In a brief history written for a class reunion she said: "We all love the Lord and praise him daily for giving us such a wonderful life."
Martha returned to school when her boys were both in school. She attended Adams State in Alamosa, Colo., attaining her degree in education. She then taught at Swinburne Elementary for 34 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She was a member of FEA, NEA, Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma, involved in the Four Corners Opera Association and president of the Opera Connections.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; mother and father, Maggie Ola and Edgar Dale Summerhill; and sister, Jacque Yocom. She is also survived by her sons Eddie and wife, Judy Hair, David and wife Cindy Hair, Daniel Dwyer and "daughter-in love", Karen Kendrick; six grandchildren, Christy VanAusdall and husband, Keith, Nathan Hair, Jonathan Hair, Amy Hair, Jason Hair and wife, Tabby and Daniel Dwyer Jr; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alyssa VanAusdall and Ravyn Hair; and sister, Peggy Wright.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Gingerich Home for the Elderly at 27 Road 5577 in Farmington.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at Pinon Hills Community Church at 2400 N. Butler Ave., with Rev. John Preston officiating.
