New Ulm - Lowell E. "Babe" Pettis, 83, of New Ulm, died Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22 at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm with Father Craig Timmerman officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will take place in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Babe was born on August 4th, 1924, to Lee and Elsie (Livermore) Pettis in Fairchild, Wis. In 1942, he graduated from Altoona High School. He proudly served our country in the Navy on the U.S.S. Howard W. Gilmore during World War II in the South Pacific.
On September 24, 1955, Lowell married the love of his life, Audrey Gobler, in Eau Claire, Wis., and moved to New Ulm later that year. Lowell worked for Kraft Foods Inc. in Eau Claire, Wis. until he was transferred to New Ulm. After 40 years at Kraft, Lowell retired in 1987. After his wife's death in 1999, he continued to make his home in New Ulm.
Lowell was a long standing member of the New Ulm VFW, Masonic Lodge in Eau Claire, Wis. and former member of the Concord Singers. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and being with his friends and family. Lowell will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughters; Mary Jane (Don) Ross of Kalispell, Montana, Ann (Gary) Donabauer of St. Joseph, Ruth (David) Griebenow of North Mankato, Jean Pettis (Jack Berry) of Cross Lake, Kim (Darwin) Schlinger of Red Wing, Rachel (Troy) Bode of New Ulm; sons, Thomas (Mary) Pettis of Brainerd and Jerry Pettis of Richfield; grandchildren, Manny and Peter Ross, Brandon and Katie Pettis, Annette and Allen Donabauer, Kacey and Erik Johansen, Lea and Zachary Schlinger, Jordan and Taylor Bode; nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Newell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
