Son of Charles Edwin Pierce and Christiane Maria Lisette Baker aka Elizabeth Maria "Lizzie". Graduated from Marion High School in 1912 where he was active in athletics. He taught in the Marion county schools. Later he was in the milling business with his father. He then worked at the Schriver Mill and the light plant at Florence where they lived after his marriage to Della Ethel Parker in 1916. After moving to Great Bend he was employed at the Walnut Creek Milling Co., then at the Mering & Son service station. He joined the Evangelical church in Marion in his early life, later transferring his membership to the Methodist church in Great Bend. He and Della had two daughters, Verna Maxine (Pierce) Burks and Margaret Jean (Pierce) Nething.
