Mrs. Lampo died Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.
Mary DeBel was born June 1, 1903, in Tieldt, Belgium, the daughter of Vital and Maria Colletta DeBackere DeBel. She married Alphonse Lampo June 24, 1924, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He died Feb. 19, 1988.
Mary's family was her life. She and Alphonse raised seven children in the home they shared for their entire married life of 64 years. Six of the children were born in that small two-bedroom home that she kept immaculately clean, all the while preserving and preparing good food to feed them all, baking homemade bread, mending their clothes and crocheting countless doilies that all of her family treasure today. She and Papa could be strict when they needed to be, but no one ever doubted they were loved and secure in their home. Her deep faith in her Lord sustained her through good times and bad, and to the end one thing she knew she could do for her family was to pray the rosary for them, which she did many times a day.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Vernon Blomme, Silvis, Mary Ann Meincke, East Moline, Theresa and Edward Challenger, Freeport, Ill.; sons and daughters-in-law, Albert Lampo, East Moline, Joseph and Carolyn Lampo, Moline, Gerard and Marlyn Lampo, Minnesota City, Minn., Edward and Kay Lampo, East Moline; 37 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Hortense DeBel; brother, Alidor DeBel; daughters-in-law, Bernice Lampo, Vera Lampo and Jeanette Lampo; son-in-law, Jack Meincke.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Kahl Home who helped take care of Mary these past 13 years.
NOTE: They were married for 64 years.
