Richard W. Babcock died Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at his home north-east of town. he had been in poor health for some time and a recent attack of influeenzi, burried the end. Mr. Babcock was one of the well known men of the county. He had lived on the farm, where his death took place for the past sixty years. He was vice-president and a large stockholder in the Lawson Bank and was promment in all that was for the betterment of the community. While he never held any public office he was vitally interested in the public affairs and was ever willing to do his full hsre in any public enterprise. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by the Rev. C.F. Ward, pastor of the Christian church, and interment mad in the Union Cemetery, (this is not correct) Mr. Babcock was born in Chanango county, New York, Dec 31, 1837, and was 80 years 11 months and 21 days at the time of his death. In 1881 he was married to Mrs. Mary Stockwell who preceded him in death about two years ago. To this union three children were born, one of whom survives. Mr. Babcock came when about four years of age with his parents to near Lawson, locating near the home he purchased in early manhood. He resided there until his death. In March 1862, he began serving his country by entering Co. C, 6th Mo. Cavalry U.S.A., in the Civil War. He leaves one daughter Mrs. W.D. Crowley, three grandchildren, one brother and a host of friends to remember the many good deeds in the useful life of " Unlce Rich"
