Mr. Dean was born in Petoskey, attended Holy Childhood, and
graduated from Petoskey High School. On March 15, 1919 he
went to work for Northern Auto Company in the parts department and in 1927 he became general manager.

He married the former Louise Hipp in 1940 in East Jordan, Michigan. The couple made their home in Petoskey.

Mr. Dean took over the ownership of Northern Auto Company in 1947. It was located at 203-07 Mitchell Street, and across the street from Brown Motors (next to the 7-11 Store). Many years later he sold the dealership to Petoskey Ford. For 50 years Edmund was also the independent dealer of the Flrestone Tire and Rubber Company on the corner of Mitchell and Petoskey Streets. In the 1940s and 1950s his Firestone Store sold toys and bikes and many things to delight children. In later years he derived great pleasure from his hobby farm on Mitchell Street Road near Bill’s Farm Market.
