Katie is the daughter of Henry Cagle and Katherine Holder. Born in Haywood county, NC she is a sister to Jacob, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, Henry, Joseph and Calvin Cagle.

At age 17 Katie married Josiah Price and they are the parents of Sophronia Price Mitchell, Sarah Price and Josiah Price. Apparently she had two children between her marriages. Josiah appears to have died in the Civil War, serving the Confederacy through Co E, NC 29th infantry. He died in Morristown, TN in 1862. James Wilson Price and Laura Price appear to have been born between Josiah's death and Katie's second marriage.

Following Josiah's death she married George Henry Long, a widower, and they are the parents of Monroe G, William L and Richard Garrett Long, born 1885. Apparently George already had children when they married, including Elizabeth, born 1850 and described in the 1880 census as "idiotic".

Katie was a widow when hospitalized and was in care here only 10 days before her death of cardiorenal disease.

Her maiden name is confirmed on marriage notice.
