Sabol was a professor of education who served as head football coach at Norwich University from 1965 to 1975, and athletic director from 1978 until his retirement in 1992. The Joseph G. Sabol Memorial Scholarship was established in his honor in 1999. The Sabol Scholarship is awarded to students who participate in campus activities, with preference given to seniors or to graduates of Northfield High School.
