He was born March 25, 1914 in Liggin, Ky., the son of the late Henry C. and Amanda Tackett Akers.
Mr. Akers had been engaged in coal mining and later worked in construction. He was a member of the Little Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church in Sligo.
He is survived by six sons; five daughters; 43 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Holbrook Akers, on Aug. 11, 1998; two daughters, Anita Blaylock and Sharon Akers; one grandson, Benjamin Leatherman; one great-granddaughter, Cinnamon Elking; one great-grandson, Devon Dabe; one brother, Joe E. Akers; and one sister, Gladys Dobbs.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23 at the Little Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church in Sligo. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.
