William Bill Knecht Ace, 88, a lifelong Scranton resident, died Thursday at Mercy Hospice. His . wife, the former Mary L. Squarok, died May 30, 1989. They were married 51 years. Born in Scranton, son of Earl Brown and Elizabeth Vian, he was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3451, and a former commander of American Legion Post 675. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Before retirement, he was an order picker for Harper & Row Book Manufacturers. Surviving are two sons, Robert C., Lake Ariel, and William G., Scranton; two daughters, Maude L. Petroski, Scranton, and Jeanette G. Lewis, Scranton; a brother, George K. Ace, Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Marion Praefke and Myrtle Purdy, both of Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Cook. The funeral .will be Monday with services at 11 a.m. in the Strauch Funeral Home, 602 Birch St., by the Rev. Jon Eastwood, pastor, St. Pauls United Methodist Church. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
