Frances Lucille Giles, nee Enke, of Cuba, Missouri, was born on Sunday, September 14, 1930 in Steelville, Missouri, to Chris Enke and Minnie (Arnold) Enke. She passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Meramec Nursing Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Lucille was a faithful wife, mother and public servant.

Lucille married Johnny Lee Giles in Steelville, Missouri on January 21, 1949 and proudly supported Johnny during his 24-year term as Crawford County Sheriff.

To John and Lucille's union, two sons were born: Michael Lee and Mark Allen.

Lucille was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri where she was active in the WMU (Woman's Missionary Union). She was also a past leader in GAs (Girls in Action), served as church librarian and worked in the church nursery. Her faith was something that she shared not only with her family, but with her community as well.

Lucille was elected Crawford County Treasurer, serving from January 1, 1991 until December 31, 2005. She enjoyed her post there and was reelected several times. She viewed her service to the community as a very important part of her life. She was thankful and grateful for the continued support and trust the citizens of Crawford County placed in her during her term in public office. Lucille graduated from Steelville High School in 1948.

She worked for Commercial Credit of St. Louis, Wal-Mart of Cuba, and Life Care Center of Sullivan as a nurse's aide. For a number of years Lucille also owned Cuba Clothing in downtown Cuba.

Lucille filled her life with the warmth of friends, family, and various social activities. She was a member of the Crawford County Republican Women's Club and recently served as the club's president. She enjoyed playing cards, finishing ceramics, traveling, and attending cultural events. Lucille had a passion for bowling and bowled on several teams throughout the years. Most of all, she was an avid walker. She was often seen walking around town early in the morning and on her lunch break.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Calvin Enke; parents; husband Johnny Giles; brothers-in-law, Stanley Giles and Richard Aberer; father-in-law, Roland Giles and mother-in-law, Perle Giles.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are her sons, Mike Giles and wife Mary of Springfield, Missouri and Mark Giles and wife Sylvia of Cocoa, Florida; sister, Kathryn Aberer of Cuba, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Grace Birdsong and husband Milford of St. Peters, Missouri and Ellen Giles of Big River, California.

Granddaughters Maggie Graham and husband Jeff of Springfield, Missouri, Mendie Schoeller and husband Shane of Willard, Missouri, and Monica Phillips and husband James of Kansas City, Missouri.

Three great grandchildren, Levi Graham, Lora Graham, and Emma Schoeller; four step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren, two step great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and lifetime friends Henry and Audrey Hayes and family.

Visitation was at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri, from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Bob Knight officiating.

Burial was at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri with pallbearers: Chris Aberer, Gary Branson, Steven Osborn, David Roy, Kevin Roy and Rodger Windle.
