MOTLEY - Paul A. Beers, age 92, of Motley, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Motley Methodist Church in Motley. Friends may call for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Motley Public Cemetery.

Paul Albert Beers was born March 13, 1917, in Motley, Minn., the son of George and Myrtle (Peck) Beers. He grew up and attended school in Oak Grove Township, Cass County, Minn. On June 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mary DeGeest in the United Methodist Church at Staples. They lived on the family farm, Gladiola Farm, near Motley for over 60 years. Paul worked in the carpentry field as well as repairing freight cars for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He also worked for Peter Kewitt from Minneapolis building radar stations in Greenland. He continued woodworking long into his retirement as well as baking apple pies and making homemade ice cream. He was a valued member of the Methodist Church in Motley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle; three brothers, Lloyd, Theodore, Harry, and a sister, Dorothy. Paul will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 68 years, Mary; daughters, Carol (Ronald) Kramer and Bonnie (Terry) Farber, both of Motley; grandchildren, Doug (Shelly) Kramer, Holly Kramer, Terri (Dan) Martin, Rich (Amy) Dingman and Charlie Farber; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
