OBIT: Andrew L. "Andy" Placher, 72, of rural Sparland died at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 1996, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Chillicothe to Guy W. and Mary E. Stowell Placher, he married Esther M. Gibbs on March 19, 1945, in rural Sparland. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Tim (Jacqueline) Golby of Manchester, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Billy (Alice) Pearson of St. Joseph; and three grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in death. He owned and operated Andy Placher Realty in Lacon since 1966. He and his wife also were Tupperware distributors in Springfield for 10 years. A World War II Army Air Force veteran with the rank of sergeant, he was a member of Walter Guede American Legion Post 593; Lacon Masonic Lodge 61, AF&AM; Valley of Springfield Consistory; and Ansar Temple Shrine. He also was a member of Illinois Realtors Association, National Association of Realtors, Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau and Blue Ridge Cemetery board of trustees. He was a life member of Marshall County Historical Society. He served as chairman of the Marshall County Board for 12 years. He was a member of Lacon-Sparland United Methodist Church, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. John McClimans will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 tonight at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children or to Lacon-Sparland Emergency 52.
