Evelyn was born on Feb. 10, 1914, in Rose Creek, Minn., the daughter of Anthony "Tony" and Mary (Landherr) Bissen. She was raised in the Rose Creek area where she attended school. After high school Evelyn helped on the family farm.
On Aug. 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Richard Abeld in Rose Creek where they made their home.
In 1958, the couple, with their family, made the move to Crookston. Together they farmed for many years. As well as helping at home, Evelyn also worked for several years in the Bethesda Hospital in Crookston.
Richard passed away in August 1980 and she continued to live on the farm until recently moving to the Riverview Care Center.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and canning. She was a caring person who loved to visit with friends and family, and always enjoyed playing cards.
Evelyn was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and belonged to the Parnell Homemakers Club. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by everyone that knew her.
Loving family members include two sons and daughters-in-law: James and Carol Abeld and John and Carol Abeld, all of Crookston, Minn.; three daughters and sons-in-law: Mary and Doug Lizotte, Champlin, Minn.; Jean E. and Rick McAndrew, Hermiston, Ore.; and Carol and Gordy Royal, Crookston; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Besides her husband, Richard, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Edmund and Vincent.
The funeral service for Evelyn Abeld will be held at 2 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston. (Stenshoel-Houske) Memorial preferred to St. Peter's Catholic Church-Rose Creek, Minn.
