Mrs. Hurst and her husband, Carl, owned and operated Hurst Food Store in Reidsville from 1949 to 1959. She served as Office Manager/Bookkeeper of Western Auto from 1960 – 1970, and of Big Apple Wholesale from 1970 until her retirement in 1977.
