His son Craig Daniel Abernathy passed away at age 54 in Nixa, MO., at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born June 7, 1961 in Joplin and was the son of Helen Dragoo and Dan W. Abernathy, Jr. He graduated from Parkwood High School in Joplin. He received his bachelor of science degree from MSSU in Joplin and worked as a paramedic in Joplin for 10 years. He received his medical degree from Oklahoma State University and served as an emergency room physician for Ozark Community Hospital in Springfield.
On July 16, 2011 he married Teresa G. Harrison in Las Vegas, NV. and she survived him, and also a son, Austin Abernathy of Joplin; a sister Carrie Wyler and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Parker Mortuary in Joplin but no burial was listed.
