Daughter of Maggie Lee Stepp and Homer Strand Cortright. She was married to William A. Doane. Children: Daniel S., and Kimberly S.

She was a 1961 graduate of Newton Community High School and was graduated from Weaver Air Line School in Kansas City, Mo., later that year. She was employed by TWA in Kansas City, Mo., and New York City and later by United Air Lines in Cedar Rapids. She moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1983. She was active in the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church for which she was a youth group sponsor. She also was a Cub Scout den mother, a soccer coach and a 4-H leader. A seamstress, she enjoyed making craft items. Mrs. Doane was a secretary and receptionist in the physical therapy ward of the Flagstaff Medical Center.
