A big Thank You to Judy Howard who forward the following on to me. It's a great thing when strangers reach out to help and contribute. Thank you again Judy Howard.

Mrs. Joseph Nokes, a former resident
of this place, departed this life at
her home in Orting, Washington, on
Thursday, May 31.

Deceased, whose maiden name was
Laura Elizabeth Potter, was born July
1, 1850, in Wauconda township, Lake
county, ILL. At the age of 18 she was
married at that place on September 27,
1868, to Joseph Nokes, who was born
on a neighboring farm, and the young
couple left a few days after the wedding
for Princeton, where Mr. Nokes had
previously located a homestead. Here
they lived 38 years, and 10 children
were born to them.

The family left for Washington in 1906,
and located in Snohomish, where they
lived until five years ago, when they
to Orting.

Those left to mourn her loss are her
husband, Joseph Nokes, and five sons,
Charles Albert of Spokane, Benjamin
Lawrence of Snohomish, Guy Alfred
of Orting, Adrian Randolph of Idaho
and John Lyle of Idaho. She is also
survived by a brother at Fort Benton,
Montana, and a sister at Watertown,
North Dakota.

The Orting Oracle paid the following
tribute to deceased in its issue of
June 8.

Mrs. Nokes was a kind and faithful
mother, much of her life being
spent in her home with her own family.
Though always pleasant and winning
friends easily, her frail health and
home duties had always prevented her
from doing much outside work.

She was a member of the Methodist
church, and had been a member of the
Ladies of the G. A. R., and a short
time previous to her death had taken
a transfer card from the W. R. C. of
Snohomish and deposited it with the
Lawton V. R. C. of Orting.
"Her busy, useful life among" family
and friends leaves a blessed memory,
and in the years to come many lives
will be richer and stronger in time of
trial of having known this quiet, patient,
trusting and unselfish spirit."
