'Sprague' began touring in the 1890s as a vaudevillian actor and manager of stage acts in the northeast from his home port of Erie, PA. He arranged and performed in many benefit performances for fraternal organizations and charitable performing groups. He operated Green's Dramatic Company and the Sprague-Green Amusement Company. After marrying his wife Jennie in Fort Wayne, IN in 1900, they toured throughout New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio before settling in Fort Wayne to continue work as an actor while becoming a manager for stage theaters and moving picture palaces. He managed, at different times, the Majestic, the Lyric, the Gaiety, and the newly-built Jefferson Theater on Jefferson Street. He published sheet music including 'Aideen Waltzes' penned by his wife in 1907. He was a main partner in companies formed to buy, sell, and operate theaters, opera houses, and moving picture shows along with operating touring shows. He later managed many theaters outside of Fort Worth throughout Indiana, in Wisconsin, and in Saginaw, Michigan. His final employment up to the time of his death was as a sales agent of motion pictures in the eastern district of Indiana for Metro-Goldwyn, Fox, and Pathe' while living in Indianapolis. He died at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne of tuberculosis after a prolonged, lingering illness.
