Silas M. Bryan, regional director of the department of commerce, died at his home, 2224 Fremont avenue S., Monday night. He was 63. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lakewood chapel. The family prefers memorials to heart research. Mr. Bryan, son of Charles W. Bryan, three times governor of Nebraska, and a nephew of William Jennings Bryan, three -time candidate for president, was named regional director in 1934. From 1920 until that Mr. Bryan time he had been in private law practice in Minneapolis. A native of Salem, Ill, he graduated from University of Nebraska in 1915 and entered Harvard law school the same year. His law schooling interrupted vy service in World War I. when he rose to the rank of captain in the infantry. He graduated from Harvard law school in 1920. During World War II. Mr. Bryan was three years in the air force, serving as an intelligence office in England, France and Italy. He retired with the rank of colonel. As department of commerce regional director, Mr Bryan was "bossed" by more than 50,000 business men in his area of Minnesota North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, for whom his office handled business problems and inquiries of all kinds. In the post-World War II period he doubled as regional director of the national production authority. Mr. Bryan was former commander of American Legion Lufbery post 128. for-mer president of the Northwest World Trade club, and president of the Twin Cities Federal Business association. He is survived by his wife, the former Fanny Schibsby of Minneapolis, who was em ployed for several years as a staff writer on the Minneapolis Journal. There are no children.
