Merrill James (Jim) Palmer, our devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 64, on Monday, July 26, 2010, surrounded by family at IMC Hospital.

He entered this world on December 14th, 1945, Murray, Utah. Born to Gloria and Merrill Palmer, the second son of five children. He graduated from Minico High School, where he played basketball and ran track, and was well liked.

Jim served a faithful mission for the LDS Church in the Hawaiian Islands where he fell in love with the people and culture. Jim attended BYU.

He married Barbara Egan. Together they reared five sons and a daughter. He was a faithful high priest and member of the LDS church, and held many leadership callings including those in the Bishopric, Scouting, and Sunday School. He was very influential as a father and leader to the youth in community and church.

He was drafted into the Vietnam War, where he served our nation with courage and honor. He was a recipient of three distinguished medals: The Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, and The Army Commendation Medal.

Jim later married Cleusa Warken on May 1st, 1999. They were sealed together in the Jordan River Temple on August 17th, 2002. Cleusa's oldest daughter, Etiene, was later sealed to them. Jim and Cleusa enjoyed traveling, attending the temple, and spending time with family and friends.

Jim had many talents and noteworthy attributes. He was frequently found serving others. His selfless acts and tremendous generosity influenced those around him.

Jim's sense of humor and acceptance without judgement created lasting friendships and family ties.

He was an avid BYU fan and loved watching "his team." Jim was a loving father who was always there for his family. He had a great listening ear and offered sound wisdom. As a loving grandfather he often engaged playfully with his many grandchildren.

Survived by devoted wife Cleusa, son Wade (Cher), son Chad (Heather), son Adam (Darleen), son Val, daughter Madeline DeMordaunt (Paul), son Lance (Patricia), 13 grandchildren, brothers Parley, Stan, Roy, and sister Linda Bowers. Preceded in death by his parents Merrill and Gloria Palmer.
