Richard served our country in the United States Navy. He was aboard the minesweeper, USS Raven, in the English Channel on D-Day. He retired from Armstrong World Industries. Richard was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Quarryville. On two separate occasions, he made trips to Russia with the church to build orphanages for the needy. Richard was a past master of the Washington Lodge #156 F.&A.M., he was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, and was also a scout master of Boy Scout Troop #40 in Quarryville.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by a daughter, Barbara Weicksel, and a son, Barry Hamp; three grandchildren, and a great- grandchild.
Funeral Services will take place at the Sell Chapel of the Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11:00 AM. Military honors will follow the service. Private interment will be in Quarryville Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc.
