Summitville- Freda I. Maynard, 87, of Summitville, died July 15, 1998, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 8, 1910 in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of Robert Ross Short and Evalena Workman, and lived in the Summitville area since 1934.
She was a homemaker and devoted to her family. Her bright and cheerful personality was often referred to as "sunshine" in the family and will be greatly missed. She attended Wesleyan Bible Holiness Church in Summitville.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Claude Godwin of Summitville and Mary and Jerry Carson of Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, William Jr. and Rebecca Maynard of Marion; brother, Charles Clendinin of Orma, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Dorothy Crull, Claude Godwin Jr., Billy Baker, Terry Baker, Charles Maynard, Andrew Maynard, Mary Williams, Emma Kegley, and Freda Gillispie; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, William Maynard, March 7, 1980; and four grandchildren, Marsha Godwin, Robert Godwin, David Godwin, and Billy Maynard.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria, with the Revs. Charles and Helen Roach officiating. Burial will be in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
