A. F. Fulton, 79 Takes own life
Russell resident was in ill health feared loss of mental faculties
Canton Dec 4 1958 Alberto F Fulton 79 of Russell, and a native of Pierrepont apparently took his own life yesterday afternoon with a 12 gauge shotgun.
He was found 5pm by Lyle hale, with whom he lived on the Hamilton Road on the town of Russell.
Dr Alexander E Dodds of Edwards St Lawrence County Coroner was called to the scene and gave a verdict of suicide by shooting. Dr Dodds added there would be no autopsy or inquest in the case.
Mr. Fulton had not been well physically and neighbors told State Police of Canton zone headquarters , who investigated the shooting, that he was afraid he was losing his mental faculties.
The shooting occurred sometime between 2:30 and 5pm. The funeral will be Saturday at 2pm at Beech Plains church. Burial will be in the Beech Plains Cemetery
Surviving Mr. Fulton are two brothers Robert of Alden and Roy of Pierrepont, and two sisters, Mrs. Lula Caswell Pierrepont, and Mrs. Cecile Buell Dexter.
He was born July 10, 1879 at Pierrepont, the son of Adelbert and Nettie Coon Fulton. On Feb. 20, 1902 he married Miss Ada Van House s the Herman Methodist parsonage, Rev Mr. Middleton performing the ceremony. Mrs. Fulton died in May 1955.
In his early life, Mr. Fulton ran a butter and cheese factory at Pierrepont. He then moved to Cranberry Lake, where he ran the mail and passenger steamboat "Helen" from Cranberry Lake to Wanakena fro twelve years. For the next 18 years he was a guide and carpenter at Cranberry Lake.
In 1929 he moved to the farm now operated by Lyle Hale. He operated the farm until his wife died, when he sold the farm to Mr. and Mrs. Hale. He has lived with them since that time. Mrs. Hale(Shirley Fulton) is his niece. Mr. Fulton was a member of the Beech Plains Presbyterian church and the Maccabees. While he was in Cranberry Lake ,he served as justice of the peace of the town of Clifton.
