Barbara Luella Cassel was born to Mary Maria "Mollie" Arnold and Henry Harrison Cassel, the second of three children. Her parents were married 1870 but her father would die in 1879. Luella (or Ella) has an older sister Jennie and a younger brother George - their existing memorials have been found and are being linked in; the obituaries of her siblings tell other parts of the family story. Her mother would go on to marry William Bennett Delk in 1885 (divorced in 1907) and mothered a 4th half-sibling, Orpha Delk, by him (Orpha would marry Vern A Leland and move to Florida).
