John W. Lowers, 83, died Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Rose Lane nursing home, where he had been a patient for 2 years. He had been visiting 2 of his sons in Massillon when he suffered a stroke, and he had been in the nursing home ever since. He had formerly resided in Freeport, Pa.
Mr. Lowers was born in Avonmore, Pa. His wife, Sarah B. died in 1942.
Mr. Lowers retired in 1950 as a conductor for the Pennsylvania railroad on the Connaughy division out of Pennsylvania, with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Freeport Methodist church and the Eagles lodge and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, both of Freeport.
He is survived by a daughter, Miss Phyllis Lowers of Akron; 5 sons, Hayes, Edward and John Lowers Jr, all of Freeport, and Norman and Gerald Lowers, both of Massillon; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Lucas, and a brother, Edward Lowers, both of Freeport; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken from the Arnold-Lynch funeral home to Cherry's funeral home in Freeport, where the funeral will be held Monday afternoon. Interment will be made in the Freeport cemetery.
Friends may call at Cherry's funeral home this afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon and evening.
