V. W. HERMAN PASSES AWAY QUITE SUDDENLY
V. W. Herman, resident of this county for many years, passed away suddenly last Thursday, death following soon after a sinking spell that seized him about midafternoon.
Victor W. Herman was born April 13, 1867, at Freeport, Illinois, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, December 20, 1934, at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 7 days. He came to Hamilton county, Nebraska, with his parents in 1881 and in 1886 he married Miss Abbie Reynolds. They moved several years later to California. To this union were born eight children, all of whom survive. They are four sons, Lester and Marvin of Stockton, California; Harry of Cleveland, Ohio; Ray of Oakland, California; four daughters Mrs. Louise Thorpe and Mrs. Jennie Slater of San Jose, California; Mrs. Iva Mullin of Stockton, California; Mrs. Hazel Whitmire of Washington, D. C.; and twelve grandchildren.
In 1914 he returned to Nebraska and the following year married Mrs. Alice Thompson. They moved to Lincoln in 1919. To this union was born a son, Maurice, who with his mother survives, in addition to two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cecile Faris of Lincoln, and Esther Thompson of Washington, D. C. There are also two brothers, Frank of Oakland, California, and Willard of Giltner, Nebraska, and one sister, Mrs. Iva Jason of Stockton, California.
In 1920 he became a member of Grace Methodist church at Lincoln.
Funeral services were held at Lincoln December 22, 1934, Rev. Ira W. Kingsley and Rev. J. J. Sheaff officiating. Further services were held at the Giltner Methodist church December 23, 1934, Rev. O. A. Quaife in charge, with burial in the family lot at Greenwood cemetery.
